November 6, 2024Decorating for the holidays is such an exciting time of the year! There are always questions that come up when we get ready to decorate. Do I decorate before or after Thanksgiving? Should I get a real tree or use artificial? Do I stick with the same ornaments I’ve used for years or get new ones? Traditional decorations or more rustic? White or rainbow lights?
We take time decorating our houses, both inside and out, so our homes are immersed in the holiday spirit. Getting everything ready for the season and our guests, paying attention to every detail and decoration placement. We move furniture, swap pillows and hand towels, and change out our fireplace mantel décor. While the list of everything that gets decorated is long, some key pieces can’t be easily changed — like your furniture and window treatments.
So how do you ensure your holiday décor coordinates with your everyday décor? Let’s scroll through some holiday styles and find out what works best for your home. No matter what your preferences are, the goal is to make your home reflect your style during the holidays and year-round!
Rustic Farmhouse
If you love distressed wood and burlap, this is the look that works for you! Paired with natural, earthy browns and grays, this style allows you to add lots of textures to your holiday décor. Simple patterns such as checks and stripes add interest without overpowering.
Window treatments in textured woven fabrics like the ones shown here add the same rustic feel. Use one of these fabrics with our Plain Top drapery to give it a more casual style and allow the fabric to hang and drape naturally.
Classic, Traditional Christmas
For some of us, nothing gets us into the holiday spirit as well as traditional red and green colors, whether they’re bold and vibrant or deep and saturated.
Classic architectural influences — such as medallions and damasks in fabrics or a stately window top treatment like our Savannah Cornice — play so well with this holiday style. Accent with golds and silvers to create an updated take on this classic look.
Winter Wonderland
Who doesn’t love a little bit of snow with Christmas? Winter Wonderland is exactly what you imagine — lots of white, soft textures and a touch of blue.
Subtle tone-on-tone patterns and crystal accents easily add to an elegant winter feeling. Clean crisp colors mixed with lush textures in fabrics can make your home feel warm and light, the perfect backdrop ro a wintry snow theme.
Golden Metallics
Glitz and glamour are definitely favorites of people who love this style. Sometimes holiday festivities need a little glitter! Gold is a classic color that we see during the holidays — and throughout homes year-round.
From shiny to satin metallics, these fabrics add a ritzy element to any window. Metallics can work with any style category, from traditional to contemporary. Choose the metallic finish that fits best with the rest of your home.
Don’t forget about the trimmings!
Like every wrapped present, trimmings on a window can be the finishing touch. Banding on the leading edge of a drapery panel or elegant yet simple beaded fringe are those little extras that make your window suit your style.
And don’t forget about that other finishing touch: drapery hardware. Choose from wrought iron, wood and metal (or some combination of those) in an array of colors, then complete the look with just the right finial design.
Happy decorating and happy holidays from all of your friends here at Carole Fabrics!
